Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology

The Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology is a charter school founded in 2007, featuring class integration and a heavy focus on mathematics, science, and technology. The school offers many options usually not available at regular high schools.
One noticeable feature of GSMST is each student having a personal laptop, funded by a generous donation by Lenovo. With the implementation of the 1:1 laptop rollout, students have instant access to instructional material and documentation to supplement their classroom research. Students also use their laptops to access the GCPS e-Companion online learning site for health and PE, enter and access science lab data, or design environmental structures with the latest AutoCAD software. Teachers and students also have access to SMART boards, multiple overhead LCD projectors, DVD players, many foreign language labs, an interactive music lab, and student response systems to further engage students in the classroom and prepare them to be successful in the global workforce of the 21st century.

The school was chartered in March 2006 by the Gwinnett County Board of Education and opened in the fall of 2007. It was temporarily housed on the Duluth High School campus, Building 100, from 2007 to 2010, although it was a separate school from Duluth High School. Renovations updated and modernized 18 classrooms and offices. GSMST moved to its permanent location at the geographic center of Gwinnett County near Sugarloaf Parkway and Old Norcross Rd., the former site of Benefield Elementary School, in the summer of 2010. The new building is designed for a maximum of 1,200 students, with the design driven by curriculum and flexibility. The building incorporates a high-tech look, with project-based work areas for student, university and business collaboration.
